Resident Evil 7, 8, And 9 Announced For Nintendo Switch 2
Capcom announced during today’s Nintendo Direct that it is bringing three Resident Evil games, including the upcoming Requiem, to Switch 2.
It, along with the Gold editions of Biohazard and Village, will launch on the same day as every other platform – February 27.
And This Time, You Can Play Them Natively
Technically, this isn’t the first time that these games have been made available on the handheld hybrid, as Resident Evil 7, Village, 2, and 3 were all playable on the original Nintendo Switch. However, there was a pretty big caveat. Despite costing $40, you couldn’t play them natively; you had to stream them via the cloud. For a handheld console, that’s hardly ideal.
Thankfully, these new ports are all native, so you can take them on a long-haul flight if you really want to. And while it’s clear that some corners have been cut to get Requiem running on the Switch 2, it’s still an impressive feat given that it’s currently a next-gen exclusive, launching only on PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S (though, leakers believe Capcom may port it back to Xbox One and PS4).
And if you want a taste of RE engine games running on the hardware, we already have a couple of examples to look at—Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess, and Street Fighter 6, both of which handle surprisingly well.
Recently, it discussed the “PS5 barrier” and how it might have harmed Monster Hunter Wilds’ sales, while also voicing its surprise at the sheer success of the Switch 2, stressing that it wants to bring its games to as many people as possible. With the latest Resident Evil games following suit, Capcom is putting its money where its mouth is. So, expect more ports like this in the future.
