Andros Townsend has aimed an amusing tweet in the direction of mesmeric Wolves winger Adama Traore.
The Crystal Palace man was responding to a tweet from Opta on the three-year anniversary of his breathtaking goal against West Brom at the Hawthorns, in which he ran the length of the pitch, dazzled Jonny Evans with a step-over and then rifled past Ben Foster before collapsing onto the turf in exhaustion.
Opta revealed that his strike was the longest a player had travelled with the ball before finding the net since the start of the 2012/13 campaign, as the England international carried the ball for 76 metres before scoring.
In response to that tweet, Townsend jokingly said that he hopes Traore – who is renowned for his otherworldly pace – doesn’t see Opta’s stat and get any ideas about attempting to better his achievement. The former Barcelona man is probably more than capable of eating up the ground and matching such a stat.
